The Vagina Monologues
In an artistic response to the current political climate, It Grows Wild presented The Vagina Monologues, by Eve Ensler, in November 2018 at the People's Building in Denver and in March, 2019 at the Firehouse Art Center in Longmont.
The purpose of this production was to give a voice to the hundreds of women in our community who have been triggered, frustrated, infuriated, and affected by recent current events. We wanted to represent all women in our community. We wanted to talk about sexual assault from our point of view. We wanted to praise the power of women. Our ability to thrive, give birth, laugh, and love. We want to celebrate our legacy. We wanted to take back what is rightfully ours: Our Experience. Our Bodies. Our Rights. Our Voice.
An important part of our production was a special Talk Back facilitated by licensed therapists following each performance of The Vagina Monologues. This was an opportunity to take a deeper dive into the content of the monologues and process anything that comes up for the audience with a respectful group.
The Vagina Monologues was directed by Robin B. Zavala and featured the talents of Leanne Jewell, Dia Kline, Shelby Taylor, Melissa Strand Fike, Emily Gerhard, Joan Harrold, Kristen Samu, Lisa Young, and Miriam Suzanne.
To date, the company has raised $1,762.62 in support of the Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault through this show.
